Personal Profile:

Alan Lynch, already a three-time participant in the IWRF European Wheelchair Rugby Championships, and Captain of the Irish National Team, will look to help the Irish Wheelchair Rugby Team improve on their current European and World Rankings at the 2009 European Championships in Denmark in October.

Following a fall from a tree in 1997, which left Alan an incomplete quadriplegic, he was in rehab for about 13 months. As soon as Alan was up from bed-rest he threw himself into sports as he found it to be the best kind of rehab. After trying a wide range of sports he knew rugby was the game for him and got in contact with Garrett Culliton from the Gaelic Warriors. After his first training session with the team he knew he had picked the right sport and has been hooked ever since. Alan has been playing for the Gaelic Warriors, since 1998 and was first selected to represent Ireland in Wheelchair Rugby in 2001 and has been a member of the national team at every major tournament since then. Alan has been involved in a number of national and international events including the 2003, 2005 and 2007 IWRF European Championships and was the only Irish player selected to play on the 2002 British and Irish Lions Wheelchair Rugby World Tour. He was selected as Vice Captain of both the Gaelic Warriors and the Irish National Team in 2005 and following the 2007 European Championships in Finland took over the role of Captain. He is also the Chair of the Gaelic Warriors.
