2009 Europeans - Day 4 - Ireland v Netherlands

Ireland got the tip off but lost the ball to allow the Dutch to take the first goal of the game. Ireland went one for one throughout most of the first quarter but lost  the ball again towards the end of the quarter to allow the Dutch go up by two. But two contact warnings on teh Dutch created the first opportunity for Ireland to pull themself back into the game and they grabbed at it with all they had. After a referees error, putting the player in the bin for the second contact, Coach Justin Frishberg questioned teh decision, which was accepted and the clock was wound back and a turn over given. Ireland went hard at the Dutch from there on in and went into the end of the quarter with a goal up and a dutch arrow. The Dutch brough the game even with a quick score in the second quarter and both teams went goal for goal. Ireland created some great turn over opportunities in the second and thirsd quarters and by mid way through the 3rd quarter were 4 up with the arrow going their way in the fourth quarter. But it wasn't to be an easy win for the Irish. With a few turn overs given away to the Dutch the game was back within 1 goal with less than two minutes to go. Both teams fought goal for goal but Ireland finally had a break through turn over with just over 20 seconds on the cloack which put them 2 goals ahead and they held on to take the game in a final score of 44 - 42. It was a great game with lots of positives to take into the game against Austria tomorrow. Well done to all the team! Keep it up Ireland!!!
