2009 Europeans - Day 5 - Ireland v Austria |
|
Ireland had another early start against the Austrians. The starting line up of Alan Lynch (Captain), Stephen Aylmer (Vice Captain), Garrett Culliton and Ronan O'Keeffe, had a good start finishing the first quarter just two goals down but were unable to turn the Austrians over. By half time we were down by 5 and with one eye on the next stage of cross over matches the Irish decided to run their bench to give some developing players all important court time against some strong opposition. While they may have struggled against a strong Austrian side there were some great positives to take from the game for the development of our players and the Irish Team long term. The final score was 58 - 35 to Austria leaving Ireland into the cross over stages competeing to get into the 9th - 10th Place play off tomorrow against the Czech Republic. The team are looking forward to this afternoons game and ready for the challeneg of teh Czech Team who they beat twice in the European Qualifiers in February.
