Previously called the Triple Crown the inclusion of France this year meant that the tournament is now the 5 Nations. Having won the Triple Crown last year we were determined to hold onto the title.
With three games back to back and the English having an extremely deep and experienced team we knew it was not going to be an easy task. Unfortunately it seems the past few weeks may have caught up on us as we lost all three games on the Friday.
First was Wales. This was a tight match all the way through with both teams swapping the lead numerous times throughout the match. The final score was 41-40 for the Welsh.
With a half hour rest it was straight into the next match against England. As expected this was a very tough match and though we played much better as a team we lost 51-46.
The day then went from bad to worse as we went out against the French. We went out knowing it would be a tough game as the French had three very fast players on court and in the end they were our downfall as we lost to them 41-51.
Saturday we started off against the Scottish team. Due to one of their players getting injured during a match on Friday they were playing with a weakened team. We took full advantage of this and went on to win the game 57-29.
This left us in the third/fourth place playoff against France. This time round we had learned from the previous days mistakes and fought our way to a tight 43-42 win in what was by far the match of the weekend according to everyone watching. While it was nice to get third place we are disappointed with the weekend as we know we should have been in the final. |
