In 2008 we started the first ever Irish Wheelchair Rugby League. It was a great success and saw the development of some potential new national team members. It was decided that we would make the league a yearly event with league and training weekends held throughout the country to help with the recruitment and development of wheelchair rugby players and support staff.
Last year there were 3 teams entered into the league but as the interest has increased so much this year there are now four teams competing. May 16th & 17th saw the opening games of the Ulster Bank Irish League in Cork.
Saturday was used as a training day with members of the Gaelic Warriors team going through new plays and tactics with members of the Highfield team. Overall a very successful start to the season. Next league weekend is scheduled for Sunday 26th July in Newcastle West in County Limerick. |
